Coleman Institute Kentucky Drug Rehabilitation

The Coleman Institute (formerly the Commonwealth Addiction Treatment Center) is located in three centers throughout the United States, in Richmond, Virginia, Cerritos, California, at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. The center is recognized as the Advanced Center for Addiction Treatment, and has developed a breakthrough Accelerated Detoxification Technique. If you, a loved one, or someone you know is suffering from dependency on Heroin, Oxycontin, Methadone or other opium based substances, the institute is ready to help. The Accelerated Detox is an out-patient 3-day program, which enables you to quickly and safely move through the usually long process of withdrawal with minimal discomfort.

The physicians & staff at Coleman are committed to assisting their patients in achieving a lifetime of independence from addictive substances. Upon completion of the “detox”, a time-release Naltrexone Implant is inserted, giving patients 6-10 weeks at a time to remain free from drugs. Moreover, the extensive partnerships with Aftercare programs greatly increase the chances for a long-term recovery.

For almost seven years The Coleman Institute has been aiding people through their detoxification, and stabilizing them from the harmful effects of Heroin usage and other opiates, which include Methadone, Oxycontin, Percodan, Vicodin and other narcotic drugs. Due to the overwhelming response from the institute patients and their families, a Coleman treatment center has also been established in Orange County, California, to service the West Coast.

Through the institute’s early experiences with detoxification methods, and with the use of more recently developed techniques, remarkable success has been achieved with over 1000 patients; releasing them from the damaging social, mental, physical, and clinical effects brought upon by drug addiction. In most cases, the patients of Coleman Institute have remained drug free for long periods after the culmination of their treatment programs, and have taken significant and permanent steps in putting their lives, as well as the lives of their families back together by retaining their sobriety.

An Improved Program
Recent program developments by Peter R. Coleman, MD, the Center's Chief Medical Officer, and his staff have given birth to The Coleman Institute’s breakthrough program, the Accelerated Detoxification Technique, or ADT. Developed in the year 2000, this advanced technique is much more patient friendly, is far more effective, safer and considerably less expensive than other available treatments.

Techniques in the past utilized the Ultra Rapid Detoxification or URD, which was developed in Europe around the 1980s. The URD method involved placing the patients under general anesthesia in a strict hospital setting and applying rapid injections of the drug Naltrexone to flush all the remaining opiates from the receptors in the brain. While there were no major complications with the URD method, the procedure was quite uncomfortable to the patients. When they awoke from the general anesthesia, they often felt, as they themselves described it, "absolutely awful." Also, the URD method was very expensive due to the hospital equipment and setting required for the anesthesia. Dr. Coleman, being a recovering addict himself, understands the intense level of pain and discomfort experienced during rehabilitation treatments, including URD; and has dedicated his work to developing a better method in achieving sobriety.

The Easier, Safer, More Effective, and Less Expensive Technique

The unique advantages of The Accelerated Detoxification Technique:
-It is much easier on the part of the patient through the usage of a number of medicines , which includes Ultram and other sedatives.
-Safer, since no general anesthesia is necessary for the procedure.
-More effective, utilizing a long term Naltrexone implant, which have resulted in over 99% of Coleman Institute patients completing the crucial detoxification phase.
-Less expensive because the patients are treated on an outpatient basis.

The Naltrexone Implants
Almost 100% of patients become completely detoxified through the Accelerated Detoxification Technique, and have started using Naltrexone. Once the detoxification phase has been completed, the Naltrexone implant is inserted, completely blocking the effects of any addictive substances for at least six weeks. Patients getting through this very delicate stage of their treatment, give The Coleman Institute patients a significant head start in permanently staying drug free. The effectiveness of the Naltrexone implant is quite impressive, and is recommended for all patients of the institute.

Of course, there isn’t any guarantee that a patient will never return to using addictive substances, but at using this new method; and if followed by a determined commitment to remain in the recovery program. A very big opportunity is opened to them in their struggle to getting, and staying clean. The whole treatment process, from being screened to the follow-up, is totally discreet and easy to start.
