Drug Rehabilitation Center For Teens

Aspen Achievement Academy

Aspen Achievement Academy is licensed drug rehabilitation treatment program that integrates an accredited academic plan, a sophisticated therapeutic system, and an experiential education curriculum within a healing wilderness setting. The Academy creates a safe and modern “rite of passage” designed to assist teens in making the transition to becoming responsible young adults.

The program guides each participant through a series of powerful metaphors that symbolize various stages of growth, provides a deeper insight towards the development of self-reliance and generate a sense responsibility for oneself and the community. The Academy’s clinical focus is on insight-oriented therapy, rather than the usual behavior modification adopted by other treatment facilities. The model helps the students gain a higher awareness of their emotional and behavior habits. This unique, nurturing approach enables students to address their individual issues, become engaged in their strive for personal success, and begin the process of bringing broken families back together.

Aspen specializes in treating adolescents who exhibit any of the following behavioral patterns:

• Low self-esteem
• Lack of motivation
• Trouble with teachers
• Poor grades
• Depression
• Confrontational behavior
• Substance abuse
• Defiance toward authority
• Manipulative behavior
• Entitlement

The Aspen Achievement Academy is set apart from other similar programs by combining the best aspects of therapeutic care, counseling, experiential activities, education, and group therapy. Both therapists and field counselors join their students in the field along their chosen path of discovery. They provide support and encouragement to assist students deal with inner conflicts and slowly learn to solve problems on their own.

Their families benefit from the Aspen program as well. They receive weekly progress updates regarding their children and scheduled phone sessions from the Aspen therapists; they also must attend their own family therapy programs at home and complete a growth book designed to facilitate the many aspects of a harmonious household; and also includes weekly reading and writing assignments.

At the end of each successful program, all families attend a 2-1/2 day workshop which includes a parenting seminar, family therapy, and experiential family activities. Through this workshop, parents learn the necessary skills needed to strengthen the communication and relationships with their teens, as well as the strategies for their children’s successful reintegration into the family, school, and community, or the transition to a home-based schooling or other long-term placement.

About Aspen
Aspen Health Services acquired Aspen Achievement Academy around 1990 in a concerned response to an increasing demand for an intensive but short-term alternative to traditional substance abuse and behavioral treatment programs. Aspen's outstanding program combines an extensive assessment evaluation by using therapy and experiential learning in a challenging and fun outdoor setting.

The main goal of the Academy is to provide already troubled, or potentially “at risk” adolescents with experiences that enables the development of self-discipline, confidence, problem solving abilities, and a healthy lifestyle.

The key components of the treatment program include a thorough diagnostic assessment, a four tiered level system, individual, family, and group therapy, a credentialed and efficient school curriculum, the use of recreational areas and experiential activities, as well as a 2-1/2 day parent workshop wherein parenting and relationship skills are taken into light and strengthened.

This is also the time when child reunites with their estranged family, all within the beautiful, high altitude desert and timbered plateaus of Southern Utah. All of these are provided by a caring and supportive team of highly trained mental health professionals.

Nature of the Aspen Program
Aspen Achievement Academy is a rehabilitation and education program offered by Aspen Education Group for underachieving, hard-to-reach, treatment-resistant teenagers. The length of stay is flexible, and based according to the children’s individual needs, usually with a minimum enrollment of 35 days. The program provides an effective multidimensional method of treatment by the combination of an extensive diagnostic assessment with individual aspects of traditional therapy, experiential education, and "hands-on" outdoor learning.

Aspen uses a creative approach with its outdoor treks and a cooperative family-like setting to enhance the traditional treatment methods. The Academy is based on the philosophy that the balanced combination of experiential learning and the cognitive process is the most effective way to treat troubled students.
