Maryland, one of the territories of the United States, located in the north end of the mid-Atlantic region. The drug situation in Maryland is complicated by the presence of two major city areas in the state, Baltimore and its surrounding counties in the northern areas of the state, and the suburban counties of Washington, DC, in the south of Maryland.
The drugs most commonly abused in Maryland are Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine, Club Drugs (Ecstasy), and Marijuana, which is the most widely distributed in the whole state.
In light of the influx of substance abuse in Maryland, quite a number of drug rehabilitation centers have been established all through out the state to counter the growing drug problem, admitting troubled people from all walks of life; one of them is Father Martin’s Ashley. One of the more “subtle” drug rehabilitation centers in the state.
The Mission
The profound Mission of Ashley is to provide treatment for alcoholism and chemical addiction, using the highest quality techniques, coupled with the most caring relations in the most appropriate, safest environment, and in a cost-effective manner, to chemically-addicted individuals and their families.
The Programs
Father Martin's Ashley offers residential treatment for both men and women. The program is patterned around a 28-day cycle of education and holistic therapy. The physicians, nurses, clergy, registered dietitian, physical fitness trainer, certified counselors, and other staff devise individualized treatment programs for each patient. Progress is regularly reviewed by an interdisciplinary team, and the treatment is modified as required by the patient.
Through Ashley’s staff psychiatrist and the Multimedia Center, patients may be given help with special issues such as depression, grief, trauma, anxiety, gambling, and eating disorders. It should also be noted, however, that the center does not offer programs for gambling, nicotine, or eating disorders as their primary treatment.

The Family Wellness Program
Father Martin's Ashley is aware of the impact chemical dependency and alcoholism, and the repercussions on family and friends. Relationships dramatically get altered when addiction is present in the home. Even after treatment, the first few months of sobriety can be marked by stress and tension as the whole family re-organizes and returns to living a harmonious and normal life.
In the Family Wellness Program, counseling and education is provided, which help family members to gain a more objective understanding of the addiction disease and their own symptoms of co-dependency. The Family Wellness program focuses on the following topics:
-The disease of alcoholism and chemical dependency
-Physiological factors of alcohol and drugs
-Warning signs for relapse on the recovering person
-Enabling behavior
-The progression of co-dependency
-Learning to let go
-Managing stress
-Warning signs of relapse for the whole family
The programs begin at 8:00 a.m. every Friday and conclude at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. The families enrolled in the program are expected to attend the full three days.
